The orchestra have had a busy November. On the 10th, we played our "Dance the Night Away" concert at the Winding Wheel. The audience were tapping their feet to dance inspired music throughout and what an atmosphere.
To mark Remembrance Sunday, the orchestra played Hymn to the Fallen by John Williams before the interval which ended with poignant silence.
The 2nd half began with Brahms' Hungarian Dance and included Ritual Fire Dance by de Falla and the Jazz Waltz by Shostakovich. The concert ended with an ABBA Medley and what a surprise to the orchestra when River ran off the stage to get his sparkly jacket on. The ABBA was well received and an encore with great singing from the audience to "thank you for the music" ended the concert. Huge thanks to River, Lucy, the orchestra and of course the audience for coming out to support us all.
On November 30th, a string quartet made up of orchestra members played 2 different concerts. Firstly an hour of carols and Christmas music was performed at Goldwell Manor Care Home. The residents sipped their Bucks Fizz with their mince pies and sang along to carols and listened to other Christmas pieces like Frosty the Snowman and I'm dreaming of a White Christmas.
The quartet then moved onto the Crooked Spire and played an hour of music for the Christmas Tree Festival as people walked round to admire all the trees put up by local businesses, charities and groups. The quarter played carols, Christmas music and a selection of arrangements of music by the the Muse, Adele, Bastille and Elbow.
